Liga Centroamericana de Football
CA-4 'All or Nothing'
Honduras Edition
The CA-4 tournament was held at the (Estadio Olimpico) Olympic Stadium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on November 29th & 30th. The host league for the Central American event: Federacion Nacional de Football Americano de Honduras (FENAFAH). The Honduras league is and has been an active member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) for about eight years. At present, the league boasts eight teams divided into two groups representing the cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayaguela.
The four Central American countries: El Salvador (Asociacion Salvadorena de Football Americano, ASFA), Guatemala (Independent team from the University of San Carlos, USAC), Honduras (FENAFAH) and Nicaragua (Asociacion para el Desarrollo del Football Americano en Nicaragua, ADEFAN) are members of a newly established regional American Football group titled the CA-4 Football Association that joined together to participate in this two-day tournament.
The CA-4 Football Association was formed from the need to offer regional tournaments to leagues regardless of their status as an IFAF member league or Association league. Another factor that sets this CA-4 Football Association apart from the others is it does not require annual payments.
The founding members of the CA-4 Football Association:
Roberto Cerna (El Salvador) President of ASFA
Alex Escobar (Guatemala) President of team USAC
Juan Raskoff (Honduras) President of FENAFAH
Alejandro Nasser (Honduras) Vice President of FENAFAH
David Morales (Nicaragua) President of ADEFAN
In 2015 the CA-4 Football Association will form an official committee, once a member team from Costa Rica joins the group to create five representatives, one for each country.
Roberto Cerna, President of the ASFA and a founding member of the CA-4 Football Association stated, “The mission of the CA-4 Football Association is about being a responsible international association that motivates teams, schools and associations, to expand their operations, increase the quality of the sport and compete at an international level.”
Cerna was asked what are the future projections for expansion?
“Expand our association to all the countries in Central America and other countries close to the region.”
Juan Raskoff, President of the FENAFAH, shared new interesting information. “Now we are working to create the LCFA 2015 (Liga Centroamericana de Football Americano 2015) playing games away and at home: between Honduras first place HURACANES and second place CENTAUROS; Nicaragua first place LEONES and second place LOBOS; El Salvador first place BARBARIANS and second place AGUILAS and the independent team USAC from Guatemala.”
“The recent tournament allowed for the opportunity to solidify relationships with the participating leagues and we all agreed to the LCFA 2015. However the CA-4 Football Association will remain separate and the next CA-4 two-day tournament will be held in Nicaragua on November 28th & 29th, 2015.”
The CA-4 tournament in Honduras showcased camaraderie amongst the teams from the opposing countries and yet at the same time demonstrated a very competitive drive. The TROYANOS, National Team representing Honduras won the championship game 30-20 over the team LOBOS representing the ADEFAN league from Nicaragua. Team CUSCATLECOS of the ASFA league from El Salvador came in third place with a score of 32-0 over the independent team, USAC, representing Guatemala in this tournament.
